What if the little match girl of Hans Christian Andersen was a slave child from New Orleans in the beginning of the 19th century?
When I was nine years old my mom bought me a big book full of the most popular tales. There were almost all the Grimm fairy tales in it but the one that stayed carved in my mind was this wonderful story by Hans Christian Andersen. I did not totally understood the ending but the fact that she had hope even though she was cold, hungry and with nobody to help is something that I, somehow, immediately related to me since I come from a modest family. I re-read the tale when I was in high-school and understood every part of it wich made me love this story even more!
The idea of illustrating it in my own way has been on my mind til then but I was always scared to totally ruined it and thought I was not yet good enough to do it.
But I love this story so much that I finally decided to start developing visually this idea and if it fails, I’ll just do it again and again until I’m satisfied with the results.
So guys get ready to see alot of this for the weeks (or maybe months) to come!
